“Show Your Wounds” 汝の傷を見せよ by Joseph Beuys

今季私たちはドイツの芸術家ヨーゼフ・ボイスからインスパイアを受けてコレクションを製作しました。

世界中でファッションがより商業化していく中で、私たちはこの明快でコマーシャライズされたファッションの世界に疑問を抱き始めていました。
私自身がファッションに導かれたのはそこに内在するテーマやコンセプトの表現であり、その表現過程におけるクリエイティビティーだったからです。私はある日ヨーゼフ・ボイスについて読んでいる時に彼の芸術に対する姿勢やその作品に内在するメッセージに強く心を動かされました。何故なら彼が作品に込めたのは答えではなく、社会への疑問だったからです。それはメッセージやコミュニケーションがベースになったものであり、私が現在のファッションデザインに一番必要と考える事柄でした。

ボイスは世界大戦の後、心と身体に多くの傷を負いました。そして彼が芸術家として活動を始めてからは一貫して“傷とその癒やし”がテーマになっていったと感じます。その様々な彼のアクション（彼の作品は多くの場合アクションと呼ばれるパフォーマンスであった）について考える時にそこには沢山の学びがありました。傷とは何なのか？傷を受容するとはどの様な事なのか？など。彼はその多くのメッセージをメタファーや隠喩を通して表現しました。

私たちはファッションを通して自らの思想や決意、様々な姿勢を纏う事が出来ます。またその様な文脈を内包したコレクションを通して様々なコミュニケーションが生じうると信じています。そこで私たちはボイスがその芸術活動で取り入れた様にコレクションにもっとメッセージやメタファーがレイヤーされて良いのではないか？という考えに行き着きました。表現がその美しさに限定される事なく、様々な思想や造詣にリンクしていけたら素晴らしいと感じています。

今シーズン私たちがデザインしたカットレースはドット柄と傷のような形状の柄が混ざり合っています。これは”傷は美しさへ変容出来る”というメッセージから生まれたもので、傷の受容と自己肯定のメタファーです。沢山のアイテムに使用されたスパンコールもデザインの実験段階で製作した穴を象徴しています。つまり傷は考え方によっては美として受け入れられるという意味です。

また今シーズンのグラフィックは花や黒曜石が液体に沈んでいるイメージで製作されています。これはvisibleとinvisibleというテーマで製作した柄で、私たちの視点のダイバーシティを表現したものです。自分が見えている物も他人には違って見えるという事象を隠喩したものです。その他にも多くのメッセージとメタファーがこのコレクションには内包されています。

私たちはコレクションを通して様々なスタイルや美しさ、新しさ等を纏う事が出来ますが、同時にそのアイテムに込められたメッセージやメタファーを纏う事も出来ます。そう考える時に洋服は女性をただ美しさへ導くだけでなく、その人の社会への姿勢や決意、また芸術への造詣や理解をも表明出来ると言えるのです。現代の様々な商業主義にあふれるファッションにあって、芸術性、象徴性、メタファー等が女性を鼓舞し続けますように願っています。


“Show Your Wounds” by Joseph Beuys

For this season, we produced a collection inspired by a German artist, Joseph Beuys.

As fashion became more commercialized around the world, we began to question this clear-cut, commercialized fashion world. I was led to fashion because of the themes and concepts inherent in it, and the creativity involved in the process of expression.

I was reading about Joseph Beuys one day and was strongly motivated by his attitude toward his art and the message inherent in his works. He did not put answers in his works, but rather questions about society. It was based on message and communication, which I consider as the most necessary matters for current fashion design.

Beuys suffered many mental and physical wounds after the World War. And since he began his career as an artist, the theme of his work has consistently been “wounds and their healing.” There was a lot to learn there when thinking about his various actions (his works in most cases were performances which is called “ACTION”). What is a wound? What does it mean to be receptive to wounds? Etc.He expressed many of his messages through metaphors and allusions.

We can wear our thoughts, determination, and various attitudes through fashion. We also believe that various forms of communication can be generated through a collection that includes such a context. Then, we came to understand that the collection could be layered with more messages and metaphors, as Beuys has done in his artistic practice. We feel that it would be wonderful if the expression of clothing is not limited to the beauty of the work but can be linked to various ideas and thoughts on society.

The cut lace we designed this season is a mixture of dotted and scratch-shaped patterns.It was born from the message that “wounds can be transformed into beauty,” a metaphor for wound acceptance and self-affirmation. The sequins used on many items also symbolize the holes created during the experimental phase of the design. This means that scars can be accepted as beauty depending on one’s way of thinking.

Additionally, this season’s graphics are produced with the image of flowers and obsidian submerged in liquid. This is a pattern we produced on the theme of visible and invisible, which expresses the diversity of our point of view. It is a metaphor for the fact that what you see could be seen differently by others. Many other messages and metaphors are also contained in this collection.

Through our collections, we can clothe ourselves with style, beauty, novelty, etc., but at the same time, we can also clothe ourselves with messages and metaphors. In this sense, clothing can not only lead a woman to beauty but will also express her attitude and commitment to society, as well as her knowledge and understanding of the arts. We hope that artistry, symbolism, and metaphor will continue to inspire women in the midst of the various commercialisms of contemporary fashion.
